UC Browser Mini 12.13.0.1289 is a lightweight web browser for Android from UC Web. People download UC Browser Mini when their phone is short on memory or their mobile data is expensive, and a full-sized browser feels too heavy.
UC Web is best known for UC Browser, a mobile browser that became very popular in Asia thanks to fast page loading on slow networks. UC Browser Mini is the slimmed-down sibling. It keeps the ideas that made the main app attractive, such as compressing pages to save data, a built-in download manager that can pause and resume files, and a night mode for reading in the dark, but it drops some heavy extras and uses less memory. That makes it suitable for entry-level phones and for users who mainly read news, search and download files. The interface is simple: a start page with shortcuts and a news feed, tabs, bookmarks and history. An incognito mode lets you browse without saving history on the device. For people who used the full UC Browser in the past, the Mini version will feel familiar.
The app runs on Android phones, including older and low-end models, and works over Wi-Fi or mobile data. More free storage is useful if you download large files.
UC browsers have been criticised in the past over how they handle user data, so read the privacy policy and review permissions. Avoid modified "ad-free" versions from unknown websites, and do not enter banking passwords in any browser on a phone without screen lock.
UC Browser Mini is free and supported by advertising, including in the news feed.
Switch off image loading on very slow connections and turn it back on over Wi-Fi. Clear the cache and old downloads from time to time, because a small phone fills up quickly. If the news feed distracts you, hide it or replace the start page with your own shortcuts, and close tabs you no longer need so the browser stays quick.
